간단 답변

Technical Intern Training (TIT) completers can transition to Specified Skilled Worker (SSW-1) with potential exam exemptions. If you completed TIT Phase 2 in a matching industry, the skills exam may be waived — but you still need to pass the Japanese language test.

The Transition Path

1
Technical Intern Training Phase 1-2 (3 years) — Learn skills in designated industry
2
Pass exams — Japanese language (JLPT N4 or JFT-Basic) + Skills exam (may be waived)
3
SSW-1 (up to 5 years) — Work with more freedom, can change employers within industry
4
SSW-2 (unlimited renewal) — Pass advanced exam, bring family, path to permanent residence

Industries Allowing TIT → SSW Transition

Most of the 16 SSW-designated industries accept transitions from related TIT categories. However, the specific job types within each industry typically need to correspond. Your supervising organization or employer should be able to confirm eligibility.

🚨 2024 Reform Impact

The TIT program is being replaced by the new Ikusei Shuro (育成就労) system. Current TIT participants can complete their terms, but new entrants will eventually enter through Ikusei Shuro. The transition pathway to SSW remains similar. See our 2024 Reform guide for details.

단계별 안내: How to Apply

  1. Confirm your TIT completion status and industry match with your employer
  2. Register for and pass required exams (if not exempt)
  3. Secure an employment contract with an SSW-eligible employer
  4. Prepare support plan documents (employer or registered support organization)
  5. Submit status change application to ISA
  6. Receive new Residence Card with SSW-1 status

자주 묻는 질문

Do I need to take exams to switch from TIT to SSW?

It depends. If you completed TIT Phase 2 in the same industry and job type, both the skills and Japanese exams are waived. Otherwise, you may need to pass one or both exams.

Can I change employers when switching to SSW?

Yes, unlike TIT, SSW-1 allows you to change employers within the same designated industry. You will need to submit a notification to ISA.

What happens to current Technical Interns with the 2024 reform?

Current TIT participants can complete their existing terms. The transition pathway to SSW remains available. New entrants will eventually use the Ikusei Shuro system instead.
